The Xi’an International School Warriors Varsity Basketball team won the inaugural Chang’An Cup Boy’s Division Championship Saturday, January 16, at XLIS with a decisive 56 – 31 victory over the XAJDFZ (High School affiliated with Xi’an Jiao Tong University) Fire Wolves.

Aden Carrillo (Jr.) scored 14 points, Mingu Jeong (So.) scored 9 points, Asher Wendler (Fr.) scored 4 points, and Mikey Kahler (Fr.) scored 1 point to contribute to the Warrior’s score.

The Warriors finished their season on a 3-game winning streak and won 4 of their last 5 games to finish with a record of 7 wins and 5 losses. The Championship is the first of Head Coach Teng Ying “Jojo” Zhao’s 2-year tenure with the Warriors.

XIS displayed their Warrior spirit and fully embodied the FAST principles that provide the foundation for all Warrior After School Activities:

  • Faithful in all their commitments big and small.
  • Having a good Attitude at all times.
  • Showing good Sportsmanship no matter the situation.
  • Being Team Players who remember there is no “I” in team.

Head Coach Zhao has done a tremendous job of ensuring each student was put in a position to grow throughout the season. XIS’ latest championship is an amazing by-product of our school’s growth mindset. When life-long learning and growth are goals of education there is no limit to what can be accomplished!
