Photography & Video
*Requirements: Every student taking this course must have their own camera. Either a smart phone with ability to manually adjust shutter speed, ISO, and f stop, for example:. Samsung S9/S10 or Huawei P or Mate series phones. A DSLR with interchangeable lenses is preferred .
*Description: The foundational framework of photography such as learning to see and compose a picture will be taught. Using a camera in manual mode as well as how to use f/stop, ISO, shutter speed, artificial lighting, natural lighting, portrait photography, sports, photography, macro photography, studio photography will also be taught. As the student’s skill level increases, more challenging assignments will be given.
In addition to photography, students will also learn video production. Students will learn how to use today’s technology to produce various kinds of videos – from narrative short films to a “youtube channel.” Step-by-step, students will learn to plan and write a script, to capture dynamic video and audio in the moment and to edit your work.
This elective is very dependent on student’s personal equipment, including devices to capture, store, and edit both pictures and video. XIS will be unable to provide the necessary hardware and software necessary to complete all of the assignments. Additional expenditures may be necessary.
