The SGA should represent all students and advocate for student and school success. XIS should be a better place to work and learn because of the work of its SGA members.

Folk Art

The class is meant to be an overview of the characteristics that set folk-art apart from the more academic art forms generally studied in art classes.  This will not be an exhaustive catalog of all the forms of art that could fit the genre.  Instead, it will be a sampling of examples that demonstrate some of the most defining characteristics of such native cultural art forms.  It will allow students to try producing simple examples of such art forms.  It will also require students to examine the art forms in the context of their cultures.  There will be two projects which will be determined and planned by the students themselves.

Textile Art

The main goal of the High School Textile Art Class is to explore how artists create artwork using fabrics and fibers as an artistic medium.  The class will include instruction in basic sewing skills, quilting, applique, toy making, string art, and weaving.  Students will then design and construct a semester project.  They will be writing a proposal for their project and also writing their goal time-line for completion and the rubric they wish to have used for grading the project.  Students will be allowed to include any form of craft that uses fibers or fabric as a medium for artistic expression as well as the techniques covered in the class.
