Welcome to the Pat King Library! With over 9,000 American English books, the library has been a valuable resource to the XIS community. The library not only assists with research projects but also helps spark our students’ creativity and imagination.

Many books were originally donated to XIS by a generous friend, Pat King. As the educational and recreational needs at XIS continue to grow, the library also seeks to adapt. XIS works diligently to ensure that new books and resources are added to the library.

Description:

Book Bingo is a reading incentive program, designed to motivate and reward students for reading a variety of books. The Book Bingo contest will end on Friday, May 28th.

Participation is optional — although highly encouraged! Students will not receive a grade, but they will have the opportunity to win prizes.

HOW IT WORKS:

Books must be read between December 14, 2020 through May 28, 2021. After reading a book in one of the categories, write the book’s title in that space. Return the completed card to the library. Each time a card is completed, the student will win a prize and advance to the next level.

RULES:

  • Books in English (from the library, book store, home, etc.).
  • “New-to-you” books – books that have not been read before.
  • Students may read books in any order and choose any titles that fit the categories.
  • Audio books and books that are read to students count. Books read in class, by teachers, for class assignments, etc. also count.
  • Book Requirements:
    • Elementary students – reading level appropriate.
    • Upper school students – *** interest level appropriate AND reading level appropriate. ***
  • Each completed book counts only ONCE. Students may not repeat the same book on two separate cards or two different BINGO squares.

PRIZES:

  • A BINGO is 4 squares across, down, or diagonal.
  • For every 2 BINGOs: Warrior Card & the student’s name announced on Warrior News.
  • BLACKOUT (ALL 16 BINGO Squares on a card are completed):
    • White Card: Sticker.
    • Yellow Card: Bookmark.
    • Green Card: Warrior News Interview.
    • Blue Card: Pin / Charm.
    • Purple Card: Trophy.

A NOTE FROM MRS. YI:

Parents, I welcome your support as we encourage each student to develop a love for reading. I  will be enthusiastically participating in BOOK BINGO, as well as other XIS staff and teachers. Someone once said, “Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” I hope that every student will discover wonderful new worlds and meet fascinating characters this year.

Book BINGO sheets can also be downloaded from Sycamore, as well as the XIS website. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions through PAN, Teams, or via email
